Use command line

vmstat -n 10 1000

and llook on second line of numbers (first line reflects values from last
computer restart). Special look take on the numbers in columns "bi" and "bo"
what means Blocks In and Blocks Out. Also look on "si" and "so" which are Swap
in and out. vmstat is utility you trust in most cases. Disk light is not always
proper instrument to trust.
