Subject:unique URL's as ID in mysql table

hello, i have a mysql database that stores URL's in a table now i
would like to change the schema so that the URL's are unique so my
question is: is it appropriate to use URL's as a unique IDs if not
what are the alternatives?

any advise much appreciated
