Or:

1. Create table "this_is_not_a_view" and use that as the materialized  
view
2. Build a new version in the background "this_is_not_a_view_pending"  
as per your data freshness requirements
3. Use RENAME TABLE to push the "pending" table to "production" so to  
speak
