I've just installed Sun's list of recommended patches
dated August 17th 1999, recompiled MySQL and I still
get the same problem. Note that if I run version
3.22.16a-gamma on the same machine everything works fine.

Any other suggestions?

Haven't tried this yet, ideally I'd prefer to compile
it myself.
