This is one thread I'd rather did not continue. Mike, I'm not speaking
directly to you, rather to the list. But do you think that Monty, David,
etc. could possibly NOT have considered LGPL, BSD, X, and every other
well-known license out there? They are inimately involved with the legal
details of selling their software. They have to deal with it *all the
time*. I am glad that they made a license that they are comfortable with,
instead of just taking something (like LGPL, as one of many examples) off
the shelf without understanding its implications.
It's easy to take a "standard" library and assume that it's what you want.
It's hard to make up a license that you feel is fair, and then to stick
with it. It's even harder to pick one license, and then continue to
evaluate its affects and consider how it can be improved. I see evidence
of this last approach in what TcX is doing.
License issues are best left up to the developers, not to the users. Not
to this mailing list. In My Humble Opinion.
