I absolutely agree with you.  I would like to add to this that MySQL
rewrite effort is apparently done in the same fashion.    With code
style and code structure changes, there is always risk of domino
effect; and with so many plugins, storage engines, and branches, a
small group of "representatives" cannot foresee these issues.   The
only way to deal with this is to maximally involve the community, seek
feedback, and take everybody's concerns into consideration.
