I was mistaken in my statement in an earlier post that there are no Windows binaries out
there that have the spatial extension turned on. The problem was totally my fault.
Apparently you have to explicitly declare the storage engine to be MYISAM when you create
your tables. I did not realize my installation was set to default to InnoDB instead of
MyISAM. Anyway, the spatial functions do work on Windows! Thanks to those who offered
help.
