Sorry to bother you, but what I suggested was to use 'ping localhost'.
So I could see, if this DNS name (localhost) is solved correct on your machine.
If not you should add to C:\Windows\hosts a line:
127.0.0.1 localhost

O.k. you use the trial/shareware version.
With this you can't change the port number in the standalone startup!
But as I said before I don't think that's a problem.

Sorry, but that doesn't say anything about mysql.
It only can be seen as an additional indication of a working TCP/IP.
I never got this error message with a working TCP/IP.
