I know of and have used Knoppix as a standalone bootable distro, but I'm interested to know if anybody else has used or recommends any other distros. I'm open to the underlying source distro, as I usually compile from scratch, apache/php/phpmyadmin/tomcat, and use binary of mysql. But I also require java, (which I still use 1.4.2 so this is now generally available on a wide number of platforms). Historically I had no luck with BSD but this was few years ago now. My preference is however a RedHat derivative as I'm more familiar with system administration commands and operations. Thanks Regards Ronald Bradford
