Absolutely - I'd even go as far as saying that xtrabackup should be the = first choice for setting up new slaves as it makes it so ridiculously = easy. Because xtrabackup doesn't block at all, you don't have to stop your = slave, so you won't accumulate lag. The other big thing about xtrabackup = is that its backups can be quite slow, but its restores are really fast = (only slightly longer than copying the files). mysqldump is usually the = reverse, which is not what you want when you're in a mad panic trying to = restore a backup!
