Using the implicit rules and predefined variables in GNU Make saves a
lot of effort. They are documented at
http://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Catalogue-of-Rules.html
although I don't think it lists the rule used to make "hello" directly
from "hello.cpp" (as opposed to going via "hello.o") and the very
useful $(LINK.o) variable is not documented.
