static library

Hi All,
I am using this driver in production environment and the dynamic library 
is causing
a lots of troubles, so I am trying to use the static linked library.  
But could not seem
able to generate it.

./configure --enable-static

Does not seem to generate the *.a file.  Any suggestions?
