Made the other changes discussed here and in the other sub-thread.  Also 
added a default-false bool parameter to let you make it use safe_grab() 
instead, and an operator void* for truthiness testing.  These changes 
then let me swap it in for explicit pool calls in examples/cpool.cpp.

All fine now?
