One or both, to be certain.

If you can find a way that the C API allows you to know that the conn has been bounced,
propose a way we can expose that in MySQL++ and it'll at least get put on the Wishlist. 
Meantime, you can either use the C API for that or you can develop a patch for MySQL++ to
use the feature.
