Install directory

This is a newbie question, but does it make a difference what directory I
download and 'make' mysql++ in? (I have GNU/Linux)

Does mysql++ automatically install in a specific directory, or is it
installed in the directory that it was downloaded to - and if the latter,
is there a standard directory one should download and 'make' in? Thank
you.
