WHY?  zlib is a common facility, not something that needs to be special 
to MySQL.

Who put it there, for what purpose, and why do they expect us to use 
that one instead of the standard one?

Unless I get good answers to these questions, there's no possibility 
that the default configuration will look for a special version of zlib 
for MySQL.  It's almost as bad as if they shipped their own standard C 
library.
