Well, you need autoconf installed, obviously.  You also need bakefile, 
and its dependency Python 2.3+.

Those prerequisites let you run the bootstrap script, which will 
generate the configure script, the Makefiles, etc.  At that point, you 
can build the program just as you would from a distribution tarball.
