configure problems with Mac OS/X (10.4.6)

I installed mysql from Fink and tried to install mysql++.  Running
./configure with the --with-mysql=/sw option led to the following error:

checking for MySQL library directory... configure: error: Didn't find
mysqlclient library in '/sw/lib/mysql /sw/lib/mysql/lib
/sw/lib/mysql/lib/mysql'

Any help on how to resolve this would be appreciated.
