I'm not disappointed, I'm annoyed.  I've got people complaining that I'm 
removing a broken feature after I've waited months for someone to step 
up and provide a fix.  This is open source, and it's collectively your 
"itch".  Scratch it.

I agree.  All that's wanted is someone to step up and figure it out.  I 
happen to believe that "someone" should be a MinGW user.
