Since you're having significant segfault problems where others don't seem
to be having them, I'd recommend you purge every last mysql++ lib from
your system, and then reinstall from scratch and see if it still happens. :-)

In a more general answer to your question, no, I don't think it is possible,
since the same lib major/minor numbers are used all the time in the
1.7.x series.
