I can't accept this one.  snprintf() is nonstandard.  VC++ calls it 
_snprintf(), and other platforms lack an analog of it entirely.

You'll need to write an autoconf test to do this right, and that will 
only work if you can move all those sprintf() type calls into the .cpp file.
