(The server is running, I can connect to it via mysql client and by MS Access). I was able to write a little script that got a connection #!/usr/bin/perl -w use Mysql; $dbh = Mysql->connect("IP number here", "database", "name","passwd") or die "Can't connect $DBI::errstr\n"; print "connection to sample database suceeded\n"; $dbh->disconnect; exit(0); __END__ This suggests that the driver is ok. But why is the test failing? I also tried with msql-MySQL-2.014 (same problem). I could not find any mention of this problem in various archives. (Well, once or twice I found it mentioned, but no solutions ).
