Excellent! That was one of my initial reasons for having this list.

Could you define "different"? What exactly differs?

Yes, my biggest grief - it also currently makes "make distcheck" fail :(
I have it on my TODO to fix this, but the 4.0.6 release keeps my quite
busy at the moment.

Yes, that's how RPM-based distributions usually handle it too - the
pristine sources in a tarball plus patches. However, I don't have the time
to wade through all the different RPMs and hunt for valuable patches -
that's one thing I hope to resolve with this list.
