I should have added that once the correct pthread library is installed to
replace the one that came with Slackware r3.6, MySQL compiles with only two
minor complaints about the extern declaration of getpwuid in libmysql.c

The correct one installs as libpthread.so.0.7 (The one that came with r3.6
calls itself libpthread-0.7.so)
