Yes.  Look at the manual section "Column Types" to see the when
you need to use BLOB, MEDIUMBLOB or LONGBLOB.  You probably want
to use MEDIUMBLOB.

Which error?  "MySQL server has gone away"?  Look at the manual,
"Problems and common errors" for an answer.
