Problems installing under solaris 2.5.1

I am trying to compile mysql by it is failing in the ./configure step. I am running
solaris 2.5.1 , gcc 2.95, binutils 2.11.2. It fails with the following error 

./configure -prefix=/usr/local/mysql
.
.....

loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... ./install-sh -c
checking for bison... no
checking for byacc... no
checking for pdftex... no
checking return type of sprintf... configure: error: can not run test program while cross
compiling

any help would be greatly appreciated.
