It depends on what you are doing in a transaction and the hardware MySQL
is running on :-)

I've seen MySQL do 100 updates/second on a table with 1 million records
on Pentium 450 with 128 MB RAM and a UW-SCSI drive. I am sure others
have seen more impresssive performances.
