CGI.pm basically serves one main function: as the gateway between the
HTTP request (either GET or POST) and your app.  It lets you fetch the
parameters.  It also lets you generate HTML programmatically, which
may or may not be useful to you.

If you want session handling, etc, then use one of the many Perl-based
application environments like Mason or Apache::ASP (which implements
Micro$oft ASP in Perl instead of VB), or roll your own with the
appropriate Session module for Perl.
