Hangnig Queries became ***DEAD in newesr gamma release

Hello all.

I posted a problem with hanging queries a few weeks ago to this list.
it seemed that complex queries remained in the status "copying to
temp table" forever and locked up all following queries so that the
MYSQLD after some time did not answer to any request.

the change description for the newest gamma version contained some
fixes for hanging queries so that we tried if the new version would solve
our problems.

unfortunately it did not. Now, the queries still hang but are marked as
***DEAD. What does this mean? Even more disturbing was the fact, 
that in the process list now many processes had the same id! Therefore
we could not identify or kill the hanging process anymore.

Where does this come from? Problem in the new version?`
Can anybody help?
