MySQL is most used on Linux/x86 and Sun/Solaris platforms. So if you
want to use most tested platform, take Sun Sparc. Sun Ultra Enterprise
450 is one of the most used servers for MySQL I have seen.

Check out our benchmarks page on:
http://www.mysql.com/information/benchmark-results/result-mysql,pg.html
and around it. Benchmark is included in MySQL distribution, so you can
run it on your site with modifications if you need.
