Currently I am working for client, who is building a HUGE internet
application. This is of course based on MySQL.
Now we are considering the performance of MySQL, which probably will
be the critical part of system, as all pages requires database operations.
To find the fastest possible server, I have read on the MySQL web site.
Under performance tuning I found:
"If you need big tables ( > 2G), you should consider using 64 bit hardware
like Alpha, Sparc or the upcoming IA64. As MySQL uses a lot of 64 bit
integers internally, 64 bit CPUs will give much better performance."
But in the MySQL benchmark Results on different platforms
(http://www.mysql.com/information/benchmark-results/result-mysql-platform.ht
ml)
it seems like Intel Pentium machine out-perform anything else significantly
!
Can you give me hints on which platform to use ?
If possible - can you give me a rough estimate on how many select operations
the server can handle per second ? (I now it's an impossible question, but I
am just interested in the order of magnitude)
