my rh6.2 is a fresh install (reformatted drives EXCEPT for /home). I
personally never have gotten a redhat upgrade to work properly. Ever. I
always, no matter what machine (my laptop, desktop, or server) reformat and
do an "INSTALL".
this might be the issue if everyone having the trouble with mysql hanging
is doing a redhat upgrade to 6.2.

Subject: RH 6.2 - MySQL hangs on install, ditto
Hi,
I know a lot of people have already described this problem, but I
can't seem to figure out what the solution is. Could somebody hit me
over the head with it please? Thanks in advance!
Last week we upgraded from RedHat 6.1 to 6.2. MySql worked for a few
days and then it just hung when trying to connect. I uninstalled the
RPMS and installed mysql-3.22.32 from RPMS. It hung at "Creating
columns_priv table". Same thing when installing from source. No
tables are actually created. Nothing in the err file.
It has been suggested that this is a permissions problem. If so, how
*exactly* do I fix this? Everything seems to be running as root. I
have a mysql user and group and made the datadir and everything in it
owned by mysql user and group.
Thanks,
Helen
