Took down Freebsd need assitant getting back mysql

[mysql Danny]

Hi I followed the instructons exactly and I keep getting

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

SOmeone explian to me why I keep getting that. And how I can find a resolution to the
problem

Help me I am deeply confused. :(
