System: Linux snakedewd.tallships.ca 2.2.13-7mdk #5 Thu Nov 25 23:54:31 AST 1999 i586

--mandir=/usr/man '--with-comment=Official MySQL RPM'
Perl: This is perl, version 5.005_03 built for i386-linux

I installed the rpm package after attempting to get the source to installed running
properly. it didn't install itself into the path that it said it was going to. After
putting in the correct path for mysqladmin I tried the command to set the root password,
and it tells me ...
./mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/tmp/mysql.sock' exists!

the file /tmp/mysql.sock exists, tho it's 0 bytes long
