Apache and MySQL

Hello,
 I am setting up a pretty (Hopefully) Hit site using alot of MySQL calls and
the person designing the site for me said that there are some tweaks that
need to be done to MySQL an apache in order for the server not to crash. He
mentioned something about connection paramater????
 Anyways if anyone knows any tweaks for apache or MySQL or both that will
make it perform better please let me know.
