dmoz' open directory

I'm checking out the Open Directory (http://www.dmoz.org) and I've found a
program named Catalog that uses MySQL to search through the database.
Anyone out there using this, and can anyone tell me how much load it can
handle?  I was under the impression that MySQL couldn't handle large
indexed text fields.
