It has nothing to do with MySQL.  It is your SuSE installation.
If you didn't have this problem now with MySQL, you would have it with a 
different source compiling in the future.

You need the packages (on your CD-Rom) to install autoconf, automake, and 
C++ compilers.

I forget the exact name of them, but if you use the RPM Info tool you 
should be able to read the descriptions of some before you install them.

OR - just install the MySQL RPM packages on your SuSE cd!
It will be done before you can sneeze.
