BSDI just today (within a few hours) announced the latest patch to the
C library that fixes a particular problem with threaded apps and
remote socket connections on BSD/OS 4.1. If you run mysqld then
connect to it from a remote host, does it die immediately? If so,
then update your libc with this patch. If your mysqld is dynamically
linked, you're all set; if it is statically linked, you'll need to
recompile mysqld.
