He said he was running BSD/OS 4.1, which means all the patches from
4.0 and 4.0.1 are implicilty applied.  BSDI did some reworking of
the threads library in 4.1, so that could be the problem.  I don't
have a 4.1 machine set up yet to test, but MySQL works perfectly fine
on a fully patched 4.0.1 system.

The issue will be the library, not the kernel.
