Sigh. Because the application gets unstable when the connection falters, the Unix boys
have a kill-and-restart script in place - so any number of the messages in the log may be
due to that. Don't you love these complex environments :-) 

/me is off to correlate MySQL and killscript logs. Thank Darwin's beard for NTP
synchronisation.
