Subject:i am new to innobackupex and getting some errors..can anyone hellp?

I am running debian with mysql 5.1
I am running the backup command like this :
innobackupex --user=root --password=pass --stream=tar .^C| bzip2 - >
./xtra/052912backup.tar.bz2

and doing the restore command like this in the /var/lib/mysql directory:
tar -xvif ./xtra/052912backup.tar.bz2
and then i permission the files with mysql.mysql user ---
can you tell me what i am doing wrong ?
