Subject:Unable to upgrade to 5.0: Address already in use
View as plain text
I have a strange problem: we have two OpenBSD 4.3 AMD64 servers. We
upgraded one of them from 4.1 to 5.0 with no problem. But we are unable
to upgrade the second one!

All the compilation and installation is OK (version 5.0.67). But when we
try to run the server it stops and the following error is in the errors log:

080824 19:31:33 mysqld started
080824 19:31:34 [ERROR] Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Address
already in use
080824 19:31:34 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server
running on port: 3306 ?
080824 19:31:34 [ERROR] Aborting
080824 19:31:34 [Note] /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld: Shutdown complete
080824 19:31:34 mysqld ended

Obviously we stopped the previous server before running the new one. And
there is no other server running on port 3306. In fact, if we re-install
version 4.1 it starts with no problem at all!

We made a lot of attempts but without any success. What make me crazy is
that we had no problem with the other server. They have almost the same
software and we used the same configure parameters.

I'm sure that the problem is due to something really stupid, but I
cannot find it...

Anybody has any suggestion?

Thanks.
