My mistake. *This* should be just *one* message! Meet the top MySQL experts at the Guru Bar and in the Birds of a Feather sessions! Talk to the key FOSS developers at the DotOrg Pavilion! Listen to visionaries and technologists in the morning Keynote presentations! In ten days, the MySQL Conference & Expo starts in Santa Clara, California. Registration right now saves you 100 US dollars over on-site walk-in registration: http://www.mysqlconf.com/pub/w/54/register.html Here's an update about some of the developments since I sent out the early-registration email (enclosed below) a month ago. 1. Guru Bar: Solve your MySQL problems on the fly For the first time ever, MySQL will host a "MySQL Guru Bar" at our booth in the Expo area. You bring your technical questions and challenges. We bring our humble gurus from Engineering, Consulting, Training, Support and Sales Engineering. Don't hesitate to take your toughest problems, laptops, your colleagues -- and our experts will do their best to help you solve your problems while you are there. 2. BOF sessions: Meet informally in the evening on a subtopic Birds of a Feather sessions are the informal evening sessions where people sharing an interest meet face to face. You can still organise your own BoF. There are sixteen BoFs already listed on http://www.mysqlconf.com/pub/w/54/bof.html - Data Warehousing and BI - Backup and Recovery of MySQL - Using Perl's DBD::mysql - SNMP/AgentX Management of MySQL Servers - MySQL Replication - Testing Tools and Techniques - Scalable BLOB Streaming Infrastructure - Performance Tuning and Optimization - MySQL Cluster (NDB) - Quality Contribution to MySQL - Migrating from Access to Enterprise Web 2.0 - All Things .NET - MySQL and Java - Online Backup - Pluggable Storage Engine API - MySQL Monitoring and Advisory Service Unleashed 3. DotOrg Pavilion: Talk to Open Source project hosts exhibiting The DotOrg Pavilion is a part of the exhibition area reserved for Open Source projects. Our attempt has been to collect the DotOrg pavilion to be a mecca for OSS enthusiasts, writers, speakers, and advocates. Some of the world's most recognized free software organisations, and new up and coming projects are listed at http://www.mysqlconf.com/pub/w/54/dotorg.html - Apache Friends / XAMPP - Bugzilla - Drupal - Eventum - HeidiSQL (formerly known as MySQL Front) - Joomla! - LinuxQuestions.org - OTRS (Open source Ticket Request System) - Phorum (PHP/MySQL message board) - phpMyAdmin - SnapLogic - Sphinx (full text search) - WordPress 4. Keynotes: Listen to visionaries, technologists and influentials The keynotes presentations are given Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the morning for the entire conference audience. I think we have quite an exciting group of visionaries, technologists and influentials on http://www.mysqlconf.com/pub/w/54/keynotes.html Tuesday we start with our CEO Mårten Mickos, on "Welcome and State of MySQL AB". He is followed by none less than Guy Kawasaki on "The Art of Innovation". After Guy, Red Hat CTO Brian Stevens talks about "Building the Ultimate Database Container with RHEL, MySQL, and Virtualization". Wednesday's first keynote is by Eben Moglen, the Director of the Software Freedom Law Center. At this stage of the GPLv3 debate, "Freedom Businesses Protect Privacy" is very topical. Eben is followed by "The Clash of the Database Egos", where I will try to herd a bunch of egoes in a discussion about database technology, principles and future. We start with MySQL's own guys (Monty Widenius, Jim Starkey, Mikael Ronström) and bring in some partner egoes, at least from Solid and Nitro Security. Wednesday's keynotes is concluded by Bdale Garbee, the Linux CTO of Hewlett Packard, on "Citizenship: Open Source Community Rewards and Responsibilities". Thursday starts with "PHP on Hormones" by Rasmus Lerdorf of Yahoo!. We continue with another technical keynote on "Scaling MySQL at YouTube", with YouTube's MySQL DBA Paul Tuckfield. Thursday morning is concluded by Chander Kant, CEO of Zmanda, on "Data Protection for the LAMP Economy". Kaj -- P.S.
