This seems to be a FreeBSD thread problem. Try configuring MySQL with the following command: CXX=gcc CXXFLAGS="-felide-constructors -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" ./configure --with-debug --with-named-thread-libs=-lc_r --with-mit-threads And yes, all MySQL related things (DBI, DBD ...) should be compiled with the same compiler.
