Looks like you need a username Jerry not gjw, here is the format I use
to connect. Mike
$dsn = "DBI:mysql:host=$host_name;database=$db_name"
return (DBI->connect ($dsn, $username,$password,
{PrintError => 0, RaiseError => 1}));
