ERROR 2002

Dear Sir or Madam,
     Yesterday, I installed MySql on my Red Hat Linux Machine... 
Things were going smoothly, but I can't remember exactly what thing I 
did that caused my MySql process to fail... Every time I try to call 
the MySql Prompt, I get the following error message:
ERROR 2002: Can't connect to Local MYSQL server (2)

I removed all the MySql stuff off of my machine and reinstalled it, 
but the same message keeps coming.. What can I do?
