I agree - I think that the fact that only a couple of people have objected
to the way it is run means that it fine as it is....

Several of the mailing list packages recommend running this way. Regardless,
if you want it to reply to the list, the fix is easy and within your
control.
Add an incoming mail filter that adds a "REPLY-TO" header to the message.
