Apoc, make sure that it's really 'mysqld' that's running as root, and
not 'safe_mysqld'.  'safe_mysqld' always runs as root; 'mysqld' runs
as the mysql user.

Also, make sure that your data directory is owned by 'mysql', or things
won't work right.
