I have a habit of taking the "words" people have made from acronyms and twisting them. Hence, a URL is a "hurl", SQL is "squeel" and so forth. I tend to spell out the acronyms, although who knows how to pronounce GIF: Jiff? Guiff? Gee Eye Eff? None of them seem entirely satisfactory. Follow this up with TIFF, PNG, JPEG and MPEG. Do you actually say "Tee Eye Eff Eff?" I thought not. I assume that those who appreciate this sort of humor understood me, and I'll be more quiet about it in the future. -- derick From: fred%corp.netcom.net.uk@Internet on 03/26/99 01:13 AM To: Derick H Siddoway/TC/TRS/American Express@AMEX cc: mysql%lists.mysql.com@Internet Subject: OT: SQL (Was Re: Extracting a given row using Perl API) Derick H Siddoway wrote: > ... > I guess I should note that I pronounce SQL as > "squeel" instead of the insidious "sequel" on purpose. Really, SQL should be pronounced "Ess Queue Ell" in the same way you would pronounce CPU "See Pee You" and not "Kerpooh" or "Sepugh" - it is not an acronym but a set of initials... As a reference, may I refer my learned colleague [and anyone else sad enough to care] to the following URL? "http://www.mysql.com/Manual/manual.html#IDX2" -- If it ain't opinionated, it ain't Rich Teer.
