By definition, an auto-incrementing field is just that. If you want the
behavior you descripe, you'll have to do the incrementing yourself.
From your comments, as well as several people the passt few days, I get
the distinct impression that most people here haven't the faintest idea of
how a relational database works, or how to write SQL. I'd really advise
people to get a good book on SQL and relational databases and familiarize
themselves with relational database concepts before posting stuff like
this. Please don't take this as a flame, caue it's not, it's just a
little frustration about reading question after question from folks who
clearly haven't a clue as to what they're doing. Not having a clue isn't
permanent - it just takes a little education.
